A few thoughts,
past and present.
.
...Remember that, in
the past, those who foolishly
sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.
JFK, Inaugural Address - January
20, 1961
Now the trumpet
summons us again--not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need--not
as a call to battle, though embattled we are-- but a call to bear
the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out,
"rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation"--a struggle
against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease and
war itself.
Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global
alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more
fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic
effort?
In the long history of the world, only a few generations
have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of
maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility--I welcome
it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with
any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith,
the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country
and all who serve it--and the glow from that fire can truly light
the world.
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country
can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America
will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of
man.
Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens
of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength
and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our
only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let
us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and
His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly
be our own.
John F Kennedy, Inaugural
Address - January 20, 1961

The dogmas of the quiet past
are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high
with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case
is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall
ourselves, and then we shall save our country.
Abraham Lincoln
It is not my intention
to bring politics or any other agenda into the realm of Sleeping
Beauties, but, we have all been profoundly affected by the recent
events in New York, Washington and around the world. I could not
help but include it in a discussion of "What's New?".
Some of us have lost friends and family. We have been moved and
changed by watching the way our great cities and their dedicated
public servants, have responded to the tragedy. September 11th,
I found myself strangely drawn to some words from decades ago,
which added to my feeling that we could and would prevail... That
feeling has been strengthened since, observing the way that The
President and his Administration are handling this crisis.
There is much that's
new in the world of Sleeping Beauties. There are six new videos
that will be out in the coming weeks. They are diligently being
worked on now - two of them are available for immediate shipment.
The next two will appear will in the next week or so. There will
be a redesign and consolidation of our site coming in the future
and finally, the section called, Our Sleepy Beginnings - I have
been wanting to put that together since the site opened in April
1999.
Your support and interest are very important to us. The
next site update will take place as soon as possible. Enjoying
familiar, harmless fantasies are even more important now and it
is my intention to create additional new material - some very
lighthearted, other projects more dramatic and maybe even, a little
scary.
Until next time,
I urge all of us to CARRY ON! Especially our friends in the Armed
Services, New York and Washington. 'Till then, take care everyone.
Be safe.
Allan
